Here at Bevan Electrical Services we are always looking to help our customers reduce their costs and carbon footprint.

One great way of doing this is to switch from standard/halogen lamps to a low energy alternative such as LED's or Compact Fluorescents (CFL's), by doing this it will not only save you money but it will also be kinder to the environment as it uses much less electricity.

Many homes use a mixture of different light fittings including recessed lighting and spot lights, however there are alternatives:

Compact Fluorescents (CFL's) - these are the low energy lamps that people most commonly think of when talking about energy efficient light bulbs. They are a cost effective option for most lighting purposes and are readily available from supermarkets.

LED lamps - LED lights have come on leaps and bounds, even over the past few years.  Gone are the clinical bright white LED's and now readily available are warm white versions.  These lights are even more efficient than CFL's and will save you even more money.  With advances in technology LED's are now available in a variety of formats, some bulbs using as little as 1 Watt in electricity.

On average, in a 3 bed property lighting bills account for 8% of a households energy bills, amounting to around £200 a year. Here is an example of savings that can be made - Replacing a 50W halogen recessed light with a single 6W LED can save you £4 per year, equating to £70 by the time you need to replace the bulb. If you had 10 recessed lights and replaced them all this would save you £700.
